The Final Countdown!

Yesterday my lab had a send-off potluck lunch for me for finishing my PhD and to celebrate the end of my many years in the lab. So many people who aren’t even in the lab anymore came by which was a fun surprise! (Also, I think they just love pot lucks). Anyways they all surprised me with a gift and some mascots for our trip! THANK-YOU again everyone! I’m going to miss laughing and working with you guys!

And yes, that would be snow out the window.
Also, I picked up my thesis yesterday. So exciting to see it finally done!

Two weeks to go!

We are looking for suggestions for things to do on our stops. Also we are going to be in southern France and/or Italy for a week or so afterwards so need suggestions for where to go there too! Best ideas win the internet machine.

(Disclaimer: Odds of winning are low…I mean they’re like really bad, and skill testing questions are required. I can’t even answer them. Also, I don’t actually own the internet machine.)

Thanks for playing!

3 week countdown

Passports are ready, we have our Australian visas, and now we have to decide what fun excursions we are going to do at each destination. Life is tough.
The new passports are really cool! Full of pictures of Canadian history. My favourite by far-

We are booked!

I’m no travel agent but I’ve successfully booked a few trips here and there so I thought I could handle this one too. But, after what felt like months of research and nearly losing my mind trying to coordinate our dream trip to multiple destinations (eg. flights/tours/hotels) on a budget we stumbled upon something different and chose to instead take a WORLD CRUISE! It’s funny because neither of us had even considered a cruise before. We had wanted to do a G-Adventure tour or buy a sailboat and explore around somewhere tropical that way. But when we sat down and honestly looked at what we could do, we only felt like we could take a few months at the most…we both feel like we need to get jobs and be responsible and stuff (which I’m sure our parents are grateful for). So anyways, it was an awesome surprise for us when we found a last minute cruise deal. We are going to be able to see more than we ever imagined and we don’t have to worry about booking hotels and flights along the way. So even though it isn’t what we had originally planned, it’s going to hopefully be the best of both worlds and give us everything we want, without the stress of planning everything ourself (because that just wasn’t working out). And we are still going to spend a lot of time on the water which is exciting.

So we fly out of Calgary Nov 6th to South America, then cross the South Pacific, then up to the Mediterranean in Jan 2014. This map roughly outlines our trip
